Recycling Each accommodation has its own recycling station, with several bins to sort rubbish and recycling. We urge guests to recycle:
Please help us to help the environment.
Rather than use up landfill space with food waste, we ask you to choose one of two options. Either pop food waste into one of the compost bins on site, or feed Rene, Emily , Chicko, Izzy and Speckles, our flock of chickens, found in an enclosed run and coop! They are two light Sussex, and three Welsummer chickens, and are very friendly. We will provide guidelines on what the chickens can eat (which is most things other than meat and strong flavours like garlic).
Leave the car As we are only a mile from the centre of the lovely Georgian market town of Louth, why not enjoy a stroll into town, there are plenty of places to eat and drink and have a rest before heading back to your holiday home.
Picnic Benches The three picnic benches and the seat at the far end of the lake are made form 100% recycled plastic bottles. It takes 1050 plastic milkjug bottles to make a six foot bench, so it saves a lot of space in landfill and the wood that would have been needed if they were wooden!
Other Measures We endeavour to use energy saving bulbs where we can, and use our own compost on the garden, made from all the grass cuttings and clippings. If you have any other recyclable waste, such as textiles, or books/games which you don't want to take home, just leave them in the accommodation when you go with a note and we will deliver them to the appropriate recycling centre or to a local charity shop. Freddie Frog water savers reside in all the toilets at Ashwater House, saving half a litre per flush, we estimate if all our toilets are flushed just twice a day, we save 12 litres of water, over a year that's 4380 litres!
